The Alion HRPP Accreditation Program team is comprised of well-respected, committed professionals with strong professional and academic credentials. Alion requires all of its personnel complete a thorough vetting process. This ensures that we hire only those individuals who have requisite backgrounds and characteristics we know are essential. Short biographies of key team members are provided below:
Dr. Peter Vasilenko is a Director for the Alion HRPP Accreditation Program and Program Manager for the Alion VA HRPP Accreditation Program. Dr. Vasilenko brings over 30 years of experience in human research protection to the Alion HRPP team and he is internationally recognized for his leadership and expertise in education and regulations related to human research protections. Dr. Vasilenko was invited in 2012 as a moderator and speaker at the Asia Pacific Research Ethics Conference in Singapore – where he led sessions on “Ensuring both Quality Review and IRB Compliance with Laws and Guidance” and “Quality Improvement in Human Research Protection Programs: Metrics and Monitoring.” Prior to his employment with Alion, Dr. Vasilenko served in Washington DC for four years as Vice President for Accreditation and Chief Education and Evaluation Officer for the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP). Dr. Vasilenko was the Director of the Human Research Protection Program at Michigan State University from 2003 to 2008. Dr. Vasilenko conducted his postdoctoral fellowship at Case Western University in Reproductive Biology and received his Ph.D. in Physiology.
Michael Pagliaro, RNis a Director for Alion HRPP Accreditation Services and an Accreditation Manager for the Alion VA HRPP Accreditation Program. Mr. Pagliaro brings over 30 years of experience in the human research protection, health and helping professions. Prior to his VA assignment, Mr. Pagliaro was the Headquarters Senior HRPP Analyst for the Department of Navy HRPP at the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery. Mr. Pagliaro is a frequent presenter at HRP forums, his most recent engagements include a presentation on "HRPP Monitoring and Quality Improvement" to the Department of Navy human research protections community and full-day preconference HRPP seminars. Mr. Pagliaro has served as the Assistant Director of Accreditation for AAHRPP. He was the Research Subject Advocate for eight years at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) intramural research program and before that served as a study coordinator and clinical research nurse for NIMH biomedical research studies for fourteen years.
Erin Johnson is a Program Manager for Alion Science and Technology and lead subject matter expert for the Human Research Protection program at the United States Naval Academy (USNA). Prior to her leadership role with USNA, Erin served as a Human Research Protection Specialist at the Office of Naval Research where she conducted oversight and monitoring for numerous Navy Commands. Before that, Erin supported the MedStar Office of Research Integrity where she provided oversight for more than 1200 research protocols. Erin is a graduate of the College of William and Mary and received her MBA from Hochschule Bremen University of Applied Sciences in Bremen, Germany. She has been credentialed by the Society of Research Administrators and Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research for numerous research protections certifications.
