The Alion HRPP Council on Accreditation is comprised of five to seven experienced HRPP and research professionals with varied backgrounds who have exhibited knowledge and leadership in the field of human research protection. Alion HRPP COA members have expertise in human research, human research protection, and applicable VA and federal requirements pertaining to HRPPs. Alion HRPP COA members are typically experienced HRPP Directors, Institutional Review Board (IRB) Administrators, IRB Chairs or Human Subject Research Investigators. Academic degrees may include physician, Ph.D., nurse, attorney, ethicist, pharmacist, or social-behavioral scientist.
Appointed Alion COA members serve for 2 years. In addition to their own advanced knowledge of regulations and HRPP design and practice, the Alion HRPP COA members complete training in Alion HRPP Accreditation Standards and business practices. Quarterly, the Alion HRPP COA convenes, deliberates and grants accreditation to those organizations which have adequately met all 36 standards.
